Began practicing yoga at the age of 15, shortly after being diagnosed with severe scoliosis. I was facing the option of major surgery. Surgeons wanted to fuse my entire spine together, except one vertebrae at the top and one at the bottom of my spine, with a solid titanium rod. Fortunately, Andrew and Ray Eppler suggested that I try yoga. That's when the journey started. I noticed immediate results, and became determined not to have surgery. Also began researching and practicing various alternatives to surgery, such as a full body back brace (worn for 18 hours per day), electronic muscle stimulation, retraining the gyroscope in the brain to perceive things vertically and horizontally and regular chiropractic adjustments.... but none of these practices could compare to yoga.
Eventually, at the age of 20, I traveled to India to pursue a more austere regiment of yoga by practicing with the revered Yogavisharada B.N.S. Iyengar. While studying asana, mudra, pranayama and philosophy for up to 8 hours a day for 3 months, I became pain free for the first time, in what had been over 5 years. This is when I threw away the brace and completely stopped using all other previous forms of treatment. From India, I traveled to the island of Crete to study with Cliff Barber and practice everything I had learned in India, amidst the solitude of nature.
Since then, I have continued to study with various teachers, such as David Williams, Danny Paradise, Susan Pennington, Chock Petchprom (for thai bodywork) and Ricky Tran amidst many others. Absolute gratitude to all of my teachers... for the unlimited patience, kindness and all of their sacrifices made to help spread knowledge.
Started teaching before I traveled to India, and have continued to share what has been taught to me. My goal is to help others heal themselves, and spread awareness of the full potential resulting from a consistent yoga practice.
